Kutchan town is surrounded by mountains, rivers, picturesque
scenery and a beautiful natural environment.
The breath taking Mt. Yotei. rises from the outskirts of the town
and watches over Kutchan and the surrounding district. Its ever
changing moods are loved by all.
Being a volcano and resembling Mt. Fuji, Mt Yotei is often called
"Ezofuji", meaning "Fuji of Hokkaido", in Japanese.
On the other side of Kutchan is the world famous ski resort,
Mt. Niseko Annupuri, which is a part of Niseko mountain range
that extends to the Sea of Japan.
The Shiribetsu river flows through Kutchan town and it is one
of the cleanest rivers in Japan. It attracts many visitors from
all over Japan and the world, for water activities such as rafting,
fishing and kayaking.
Mt Yotei has wonderful ground water, an essential ingredient
for local agricultural industry to grow high quality produce,
such as potato, melon, and other vegetables.
