@The museum was constructed in the memory of Shu Ogawara (1911-2002), who was born in the town and is a leading figure of the art world in Hokkaido.
The buildeing, whose exterior was designed as part of the landscape, blends with the background of Mt. Yotei and Niseko mountain range.

Special exhibition

At Kutchan high school under the old system, Ogawara was suspended indefinitely from the school. He received the guidance of young fine arts teacher Kouzaburo Shirai, and worked hard at the training of the oil painting. He made the will to become the painter certain by staging an exhibition based on group "Midori-kai" formed with classmate's Keiyu Nishimura et al.. He enters the Western painting Department of Tokyo Art School in 1930.

The Museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00
(Admission ends after 16:30.)

Closed on Tuesday and Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 (When a Tuesday falls on a national holiday, the Museum opens. Then the Museum closes on the following Wednesday. Nov. 3 and from July 25 to Aug. 19 is an exception.) Further information in indicated in the special exhibition schedule.
